Our pick: Entrance and Ride Pass for unlimited rides on the same day, free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Book now Compare the options
Tivoli opened in 1843 and had 4.25 million visitors in 2024, and a large proportion of guests are families. The garden is easy to navigate, located right opposite Copenhagen Central Station, and offers rides of many sizes. However, there are a few rules that are good to know in advance: which children get free entrance, when a child needs a Ride Pass, and what applies in the evening during major events.
The guide covers tickets, height limits, packed lunch, pushchair, Friday Rock, Halloween and the Tivoli Youth Guard. If you want to know more about the ticket types, read the guide to Tivoli tickets, and check Tivoli opening hoursbefore you set off.
The short answer
Children under 3 years enter free with a paying adult, up to four per adult. If the child wants to go on rides, a Ride Pass is required from 1 year, and height restrictions are posted at each ride. You may bring a packed lunch and non-alcoholic drinks in reusable bottles, but dogs are not allowed, except for guide dogs and service dogs.

Do children need an entrance ticket to Tivoli?
Children under 3 years enter free with a paying adult, up to four per adult. Ads mention child tickets for entrance for ages 3 - 7, and a Ride Pass for the rides is required from 1 year.
The rules for children are split into two, just like the tickets. Entrance and rides are separate products in Tivoli, and age determines different things for each. The table compiles the information provided by tivoli.dk and the ads. Prices vary by date and season, so they are not listed here.
Note that a child aged 1 or 2 enters for free but still needs a Ride Pass to go on the rides. For very young children under 1 year, a Ride Pass is not required. The ticket with entrance and Ride Pass is the simplest solution for older children who want to go on many rides.
| Age | Entrance | Ride Pass for rides | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 1 year | Free with paying adult | Not required | Maximum four children under 3 years per adult |
| 1 - 2 years | Free with paying adult | Required to ride the rides | Tivoli Extra is not for children under 3 years |
| 3 - 7 years | Child ticket as per the listings | Required to ride the rides | Height restrictions at each ride |
| 8 years and up | Check tivoli.dk | Required to ride the rides | Scary houses for Halloween are for 12 years and up |
How tall do you need to be for the rides in Tivoli?
It depends on the ride. Height restrictions are posted at each ride and vary, so measure the child at the entrance to the individual ride.
Tivoli has both small rides for the youngest and large rides such as Rutschebanen, Dæmonen and the 80-metre-high Himmelskibet. Each ride has its own height restriction, which is posted at the entrance. This guide does not list figures because they vary and can change; see the sign at the ride or check tivoli.dk.
Height restrictions also affect whether a Ride Pass is worth it. If the child is too small for the big rides, there will be fewer rides, and single ride tickets bought inside the garden may be enough. Rides can also stop with little notice for technical inspections, so prepare the child that a particular ride may be closed. More about the individual rides is in the guide to Tivoli’s rides.

Entrance and unlimited rides on the same day: scan the QR code and give the children the wristband at the entrance.
Book nowCan you bring a packed lunch into Tivoli?
Yes. You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks in reusable bottles. For large events such as Friday Rock, the bottles must be empty at the entrance.
According to tivoli.dk, guests may bring their own food, so a packed lunch with rye bread and fruit is perfectly fine. Non-alcoholic drinks are allowed in reusable bottles. For large events, for example Friday Rock, the bottles must be empty when you enter. There are benches around the garden, and the lake is a good place to take a break.
If you would rather eat out, there is a package with food included. Tivoli Extra with entrance, Ride Pass and meal according to the ad gives an Easy Food meal at a selected restaurant and a discount coupon for the gift shop Little Tivoli. The package is not for children under 3 years, and the entrance and meal must be used on the same day.

Entrance, Ride Pass and an Easy Food meal on the same day, so dinner is sorted in advance.
Book nowCan you bring a pushchair into Tivoli?
During events, pushchairs are not allowed in the area by the open-air stage. There are lockers for storage and baby-changing facilities by the toilets near the Pantomime Theatre.
According to Tivoli, pushchairs are not allowed in the area by the open-air stage when there are events. So plan where to leave the pushchair if you want to see a concert in the evening. Bags and outerwear can be placed in lockers at the main entrance, at the exit towards Glyptoteket and under Dæmonen.
- Toilets and baby changing: at the Pantomime Theatre.
- Entrances: Vesterbrogade 3 and Bernstorffsgade opposite Copenhagen Central Station, convenient if you arrive by train.
- Re-entry: stamp at the exit by Tivoli Food Hall, so you can take a break outside the garden, except during major events.
- Dogs: not allowed, except for guide dogs and service dogs.

What applies to children at Friday Rock in Tivoli?
After 17:30, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged at least 25. One adult can accompany up to four children.
Friday Rock is Tivoli’s Friday concerts during the summer season, and they attract large crowds. According to tivoli.dk, after 17:30 children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 25 or over, and one adult can accompany up to four children. This rule is also stated in the advert for the ticket with entrance and Ride Pass.
If you have teenagers who want to visit Tivoli with friends on a Friday, they must therefore leave before 17:30 or be accompanied by an adult. Also remember that water bottles must be empty at the entrance on Friday Rock days. Which Fridays have Friday Rock and when Tivoli is open is listed on tivoli.dk.
Is Halloween in Tivoli suitable for young children?
Yes, the garden is decorated with over 20,000 pumpkins and has a Halloween market. The two scary houses, Villa Vendetta and The Haunted House, are for ages 12 and up and require a separate ticket.
Halloween in Tivoli runs from 2 October to 1 November 2026 and is a great time to take the children. According to the ad, there are over 20,000 pumpkins in the garden, and juicynet.dk reports 22,000 in 2026. Family activities such as pumpkin carving and a Halloween market are included. Halloween entrance with Ride Pass gives unlimited rides on the same day.
The two scary houses, Villa Vendetta and The Haunted House, are for ages 12 and up and are not covered by the Ride Pass. They require a separate ticket. For small children, the pumpkins, lights and small rides are plenty. Read more in the guide to Halloween in Tivoli.

Halloween entrance and Ride Pass: pumpkins and rides on the same day; scary houses require a separate ticket and are for 12+.
Book nowWhat is the Tivoli Youth Guard?
The Tivoli Youth Guard is Tivoli’s children’s guard, founded in 1844, with members aged 8 to 16.
The Tivoli Youth Guard was founded in 1844, the year after the garden opened, and consists of children and young people aged 8 to 16 in red uniforms and bearskin hats. The Guard is part of Tivoli’s history and is a sight that many children remember from their visit. When the Guard marches is not specified here; check tivoli.dk.
The Pantomime Theatre, dating from 1874, is another place where children can experience something other than rides: an open-air Chinese theatre with characters like Pierrot and Harlequin and the famous peacock carpet. Both experiences are included in the entrance ticket, even without a Ride Pass.

When is Tivoli least crowded?
Weekdays outside school holidays are often quieter than weekends, and the first period after opening is usually best for rides. Friday evenings in summer are busy.
No one can promise short queues, but experience shows that weekends, school holidays and Friday evenings with Friday Rock are the busiest times. If you come on a weekday and arrive at opening time, children typically get more rides before the garden fills up. With young children, it can also be a good idea to go home before the evening gets long, or take a break outside the garden with a re-entry stamp.
If you mainly want to walk around, see the lake and eat a packed lunch, an entrance ticket without rides is enough, and you can buy a Ride Pass or individual ride tickets inside the park, at the machines or in the Tivoli app, if the children feel like it. Tickets via GetYourGuide can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before, if the weather or plans change.

Entrance and Ride Pass in one ticket: the wristband gives unlimited rides on the same day, so children can ride again and again.
