Christmas in Tivoli 2026

Christmas in Tivoli 2026 opens on 13 November and ends on 3 January 2027. The garden offers a Christmas market, lights, Father Christmas’s house and an ice rink, but the Christmas ticket on GetYourGuide covers entrance, not rides. Here is the overview.

After Halloween, Tivoli closes briefly, and on 13 November 2026 the garden reopens as a Christmas market. Until 3 January 2027, the paths are filled with stalls, lights and decorations, and there is an ice rink, Father Christmas's house and New Year's fireworks on 31 December. In December it gets dark around 4 pm, so the lights take centre stage for much of your visit.

Before you buy a ticket, it is worth knowing the difference between entrance and rides. The Christmas ticket sold via GetYourGuide is an entrance ticket, and the same applies to Copenhagen Card and the combination with the hop-on hop-off bus. If you want to go on the rides, you need a Ride Pass or buy individual ride tickets inside the garden. You can find the general overview in the guide to Tivoli tickets.

The short answer

Christmas in Tivoli 2026 runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 with a Christmas market, lights, Father Christmas's house, ice rink and New Year's fireworks on 31 December. The Christmas entrance ticket gives entrance to the garden, but according to the advertisement's own important information, the rides are not included. See the day's opening hours on tivoli.dk.

When does Christmas in Tivoli 2026 open?

The Christmas season opens on Friday 13 November 2026 and ends on Sunday 3 January 2027. According to tivoli.dk, Christmas 2027 has the same framework: 13 November 2027 - 3 January 2028.

Christmas is the last season of the year at Tivoli. Halloween ends on 1 November 2026, and the garden is closed for the nearly two weeks before the Christmas market opens. After 3 January, Tivoli closes for winter until the Easter season 2027 opens on 19 March. Tivoli states that the garden is open 257 days a year.

Opening hours during the Christmas season vary from day to day, and special dates like Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve may have their own times. Check the day's opening hours on tivoli.dk before you set off, and read more about the whole year in Tivoli's opening hours and seasons.

What can you experience at Christmas in Tivoli?

Christmas market, lights across the entire garden, Father Christmas’s house, ice rink and New Year’s fireworks on 31 December.

According to the Christmas ticket ad, the season offers:

  • The Christmas market with stalls along the paths.
  • Lights and decorations throughout the garden, which only really make an impression after dark.
  • Father Christmas's house, as the advertisement highlights for families.
  • The ice rink in the middle of the garden.
  • New Year's fireworks on 31 December.

The ad does not specify times for the individual activities, and the terms for the ice rink are also not stated. Check tivoli.dk for the day’s programme.

Are the rides included in the Christmas entrance ticket to Tivoli?

No. According to the ad’s own important information, rides are not included, even though the contents list mentions a Ride Pass.

The Christmas ticket ad on GetYourGuide contradicts itself. In the list of what is included, it states a Ride Pass, but the ad’s important information clearly says that rides are not included. Trust the important information and the small print: the ticket gives entrance to the garden.

If you want to ride the attractions, you can buy a Ride Pass or individual ride tickets inside the garden, at the machines or in the Tivoli app. Tickets that include both entrance and a Ride Pass, for example entrance and Ride Pass on the same day, are best for those who want to go on many rides. Count the rides you realistically have time for before choosing: with small children, queues and cold fingers, you often end up with fewer than planned.

Are the rides operating in Tivoli at Christmas?

Yes. According to gogoevents.dk, the rides run throughout the entire Christmas season, but they can stop with short notice for technical inspection.

For the youngest, gogoevents.dk mentions the Santa Train and the Forest Carousel as the obvious Christmas season rides. Height requirements are posted at each ride and vary, so check the sign before you join the queue. A Ride Pass is required from age 1 if the child wants to ride, and children under 3 enter free with a paying adult, maximum four per adult.

Some seasonal attractions may be excluded from the Ride Pass. Attractions may also pause for inspection: in mid-July 2026, several major attractions were out of service on the same day according to TV2 Kosmopol. If you have children with you, also see the guide to Tivoli with children.

What can you eat at Christmas in Tivoli?

According to the announcement, æbleskiver, honey cakes and roast pork sandwiches are part of the season. You may also bring your own food.

The Christmas market stalls sell seasonal classics, and the announcement for the Christmas ticket mentions æbleskiver, honey cakes and roast pork sandwiches. Prices vary from stall to stall, and the announcement does not specify them.

According to tivoli.dk, you may bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks in reusable bottles. For large events, bottles may need to be empty at the entrance. A packed lunch on a bench is a simple solution for families, and there are lockers for storage at the main entrance, at the exit towards Glyptoteket and under Dæmonen.

Can you use the Copenhagen Card in Tivoli at Christmas?

Yes, Copenhagen Card Discover includes Tivoli entrance, but not rides. The card also covers public transport in the Greater Copenhagen area.

If you are in Copenhagen for several days in December, the Copenhagen Card Discover with Tivoli entrance and transport can combine entrance and transport. According to the ad, the card includes over 80 attractions and public transport in the capital area, and it is available for 24 - 120 hours. Children aged 3 to 11 need their own child card, and the card is activated in the app.

Another option is the hop-on hop-off bus with Tivoli entrance: 24 hours on the bus, 19 stops and an audio guide in 10 languages plus entrance to Tivoli. According to the ad, you get a re-entry stamp, but rides are not included. Both solutions therefore require a Ride Pass or individual ride tickets if you want to go on the attractions.

When is the New Year's fireworks display in Tivoli?

The New Year's fireworks are on 31 December and are part of the Christmas season according to the Christmas ticket announcement.

New Year's Eve is one of the last big evenings of the season before the garden closes on 3 January. The announcement does not specify the time of the fireworks or the opening hours that day, so check tivoli.dk well in advance. For large events, there is no re-entry stamp at the exit by Tivoli Food Hall, so expect to stay inside.

The Nutcracker, the ballet performed during the Christmas season, requires a separate ticket and is not included in the entrance ticket. The announcement does not provide dates for the performances.

Tips for a visit to Tivoli at Christmas

Arrive before dark if you want to see the garden in daylight, and stay after 4 PM for the lights. Dress warmly.

  • Entrances: the main entrance is at Vesterbrogade 3, and the entrance at Bernstorffsgade is opposite Copenhagen Central Station.
  • Dated tickets: tickets on shop.tivoli.dk are dated, and according to Tivoli, unused tickets can be moved to another date up to 14 days after the original one.
  • Dogs: not allowed, except for guide dogs and service dogs.
  • Payment: Dankort, VISA and Mastercard are accepted.
  • Cancellation: tickets bought via GetYourGuide can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before.

Feel free to plan your visit around dusk. If you arrive early in the afternoon, you can see the garden, stalls and Christmas trees in daylight and go on the first rides while it is still light. Around 4 PM it gets dark in December, and then the garden changes character when the strings of lights and lamps are turned on. Weekends in December and the days between Christmas and New Year can be busy, so if you have the option of a weekday earlier in the season, it may give you more space at the stalls. However, this is no guarantee, and Tivoli does not provide visitor numbers per day.

If you cannot wait until November, Tivoli is holding Halloween from 2 October to 1 November.
